Morning & Evening
Ritual

Your skin operates two distinct biological windows each day — one requiring antioxidant defence, one requiring cellular repair. The Elixir is designed to serve both.

5-minute read·Application Science· SÉRÈNE Suisse

Most luxury serums are marketed as evening treatments because the nocturnal repair window is easier to explain. The SÉRÈNE Elixir Gold & Caviar Serum is formulated for both morning and evening application — not because twice-daily use increases sales, but because the two windows represent distinct biological states that require distinct but complementary interventions, and the Elixir addresses both.

The morning window: antioxidant defence
before the assault begins

Within the first hour of waking, the body undergoes the Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR) — a natural surge in cortisol that prepares the body and mind for the demands of the day. This surge creates a brief window of slightly elevated systemic inflammation, including at the skin level. Concurrently, the skin is maximally vulnerable to UV-induced oxidative damage before any antioxidant protection is in place.

Applying the Elixir in the morning means delivering the serum's antioxidant architecture — Organic Edelweiss Extract, KOMBUCHKA™ fermentation antioxidants, and Vitamin E — precisely when the skin needs them most: before sun exposure, pollution exposure, and the inflammatory consequences of a full day of UV, heat, and environmental stressors. This is not redundant with SPF. SPF filters UV radiation at the surface. The Elixir's antioxidants neutralise the reactive oxygen species that UV generates within the dermal tissue — the free radical cascade that SPF alone does not stop.

The morning routine: Toner → Elixir Serum (press in, 60 seconds) → Elixir Cream → Lumière SPF 50 as the final layer.

"SPF blocks UV radiation from reaching the skin. Antioxidants neutralise the oxidative damage caused by the UV that still generates free radicals within the tissue. You need both. They address different points in the same damage pathway."

The evening window: cellular repair
when the biology peaks

The nocturnal repair window is well-established in dermatology. Between approximately 11pm and 2am, human growth hormone secretion peaks, skin cell mitosis accelerates significantly, and fibroblast activity — the production of new collagen and elastin — runs at its highest daily rate. This is the window the skin was biologically designed to use for structural repair.

The Elixir's active repair ingredients — Syn®-Coll Tripeptide-5 (which activates the TGF-β collagen synthesis pathway), Marine Caviar Extract (which delivers amino acid building blocks directly to the fibroblast layer), and Gold Collagen Peptide (which supports firming and radiance at the dermal level) — are most effectively deployed when applied before this window opens. Applied at the end of your evening ritual, these actives are in tissue contact throughout the peak repair period.

The evening routine: Cleanse → Toner → Elixir Serum (press in, allow to absorb) → Elixir Cream. No SPF needed in the evening. The cream seals the serum's actives in for the duration of the repair window.

Application technique:
press, don't rub

The method of application is not aesthetic instruction. It is delivery optimisation. Rubbing a serum across the skin surface moves product horizontally — distributing it across the area, but also creating friction that drives product into the outer layers before it has the opportunity to penetrate to the dermis.

Pressing the serum in with the fingertips — pressing vertically, holding briefly at each zone — creates a transient pressure gradient that drives the small molecular weight actives (Syn®-Coll's Tripeptide-5 is a particularly small molecule, engineered specifically for dermal penetration) through the stratum corneum and into the viable epidermis. Use three to four drops. Press into forehead, cheeks, chin, neck, and décolleté. Allow 60 seconds before applying the cream. The 60-second pause is not cosmetic patience — it is the absorption window during which the water-phase actives complete their initial penetration before the lipid-phase cream creates an occlusive layer.

Avoid the immediate eye area — the Magic Glow Eye Cream is formulated specifically for the periorbital zone, where the skin is thinner and the active profile of the serum can occasionally cause sensitivity.

The Elixir Gold & Caviar Serum. Apply morning and evening to freshly toned skin. Press in — don't rub. Follow with the Elixir Cream morning and evening, and Lumière SPF 50 as the final step each morning.
